User Experience (UX) design is like crafting a great recipe. It’s not just about the ingredients (design elements) but also about making sure everyone enjoys the meal (user satisfaction). To cook up a fantastic digital experience, you need to measure and taste-test various aspects of it. Here are the top 10 UX metrics and how to “taste” them!

1. User Happiness (CSAT)

What is it? It’s like asking your friends how much they liked the meal you prepared. CSAT, or User Happiness, helps us know if users are happy with our product.

How to Measure: Send out a simple survey asking, “How much did you like using our app today?” and let them rate it on a scale from really liked to didn’t like.

2. Would They Recommend (NPS)

What is it? Imagine your product is a cool gadget, and you’re asking people if they’d recommend it to others. NPS tells us how likely users are to recommend our product.

How to Measure: Ask, “Would you suggest our app to a friend?” on a scale from “Not at all” [0] to “Definitely!” [10].

3. Task Success Rate

What is it? It’s like timing how fast someone can follow your recipe to make a dish. Task Success Rate measures how many users successfully complete tasks in your product.

How to Measure: Set tasks during usability testing and see how many users complete them successfully.

4. Speed of Task Completion (Time on Task)

What is it? Just like timing how long it takes for a dish to be prepared, Time on Task measures how long users take to complete tasks in your product.

How to Measure: Note the time it takes for users to complete each task during usability testing.

5. Bounce Rate

What is it? Imagine someone taking a look at a dish and deciding it’s not what they wanted. Bounce Rate is similar; it tells us the percentage of users who visit a page and leave without doing anything.

How to Measure: Use tools like Fullstory or Hotjar to see how many visitors leave your page quickly and tweak it to keep them interested.

6. Oops! (Error Rate)

What is it? Count the times someone makes a mistake while trying to follow your recipe. Error Rate shows us how often users make mistakes in our product.

How to Measure: Note down every time a user makes a mistake during usability testing.

7. Recipe Revisits (Retention Rate)

What is it? Just like people revisiting your recipe, Retention Rate tells us how many users keep coming back to your product.

How to Measure: Keep an eye on how many users come back to use your product regularly.

8. The Satisfaction Scale (SUPR-Q)

What is it? SUPR-Q is like getting feedback on how enjoyable a meal was. It stands for System Usability Questionnaire and measures the overall user satisfaction.

How to Measure: Ask users (using Typeform or a similar survey tool) specific questions about usability and satisfaction and measure their answers.

9. How Many Took a Second Bite (Click-Through Rate)

What is it? Imagine how many people took a second bite of a delicious meal. Click-Through Rate tells us how many users click on a particular button or link.

How to Measure: Use tools like Maze, Fullstory, or Hotjar to see how often users click on specific elements in your product.

10. Digging In (User Engagement)

What is it? It’s like seeing how much people enjoy a dish by the number of bites and smiles. User Engagement measures how involved users are with your product.

How to Measure: Check the number of interactions, reviews, comments, and shares users make about your product.

In a nutshell, using these UX metrics is like being a friendly chef who’s eager to improve the recipe based on what people love most. By understanding these ‘tastes,’ you’ll create a UX that’s as delightful as a well-cooked meal!
